Using the Library

About Us

Our libraries and ICT centres offer a range of study facilities. We have a wide variety of print and electronic resources to support you while you are studying at college, including books, journals, newspapers, CDs, DVDs and electronic resources.
When you start a new course at Leeds City College, your tutor will arrange a library induction for your class. If you miss it, or would like to refresh your memory about what the library offers, you can find library induction tutorials HERE or ask a member of staff for help.

Please be aware that computers turn off 10 minutes before the libraries close and opening hours change during the holidays.

Library+ is for study and learning.

For the wellbeing of everyone, please...

1. Show respect for the Library and Library users.

2. Keep noise to a minimum in all areas, and silent in silent areas.

3. Consume only bottled water. Food is not allowed.

4. Switch mobile phones to silent.

5. Comply with all instructions from staff. Failure to do so may result in further action.

Borrowing Basics

Your student ID card is also your library card. You must have it with you to borrow items from the library.

You can borrow up to 6 items at a time (higher education students can borrow 8).

Most items can be borrowed for 2 weeks, but reference items cannot be taken out of the library.

If you need to borrow an item for more than 2 weeks, you may be able to renew it. Ask a member of staff at the library counter.

2 week loans can be renewed twice, but shorter loan items cannot be renewed.

If someone else has already reserved an item that you have on loan, you will not be able to renew it and will have to return it when it is due.

If you want an item that is out on loan to someone else, you can reserve it free of charge. Just ask a member of staff.

We are also happy to transfer books between libraries, if you want something that is available at another campus.

Please return your books on or before the due date to any library counter at any campus.

If the library is closed then at most campuses you can leave items in the book return box outside the library, but these will not be returned until the library is next open.

It is your responsibility to make sure that you return items on time. Fines will be charged on overdue items.

Fines are charged for overdue items, as follows:

- 2 week loans 5p per day.

- 1 week loans 5p per day.

- Overnight loans 30p for the first day and 50p for the following days.

- Same day loans 20p per half hour.

Fines are not charged at weekends and during holidays. The maximum fine for each overdue item is £3.

If you lose or damage an item, or if it is stolen, the full replacement cost will be charged.

Computers and Printers

You can login to the library computers using your college computer username and password. Please see library staff if you do not know or have forgotten your login details.
The College has multifunction printers, photocopiers and scanners. Log in to them using your computer username and password or save time by registering your student card. This will allow you to swipe you card in the future. Ask a member of staff if you need any help.

All students are given £5 credit for printing and photocopying each term.

Credits are deducted from your account every time you print or photocopy. One side of a black and white page costs approximately 1p and a colour page costs approximately 5p.

If you run out of credit you can buy more from the Library counter. As your print balance is reset after Christmas and Easter, we advise that you buy only enough credit to last you until then. Please be aware that credit cannot be carried over to the next term.

From your college desktop, open Chrome App Launcher and select Gmail.

Enter your student number from your ID card, followed by and then your college computer password.

Ask Library staff if you need any help with this.
